Abstract

A number of light nuclei have been studied via single-neutron pick-up reactions induced by 100 MeV protons from the McGill synchrocyclotron. The elements studied were 7Li, 9Be, 12C and 16O. Deuteron groups resulting from the excitation of low-lying states of the residual nuclei have been measured over an angular range from 5° to 80° (lab). Differences in the angular distributions for 1p12 and 1p32 shell neutron pick-up indicate a spin dependence in the interaction. All deuteron groups exhibited abnormally large differential cross sections at angles as large as 80°. The results obtained are discussed within the framework of various nuclear models.
