Abstract

The unified theory of Feshbach is applied to the reaction 15N(p,n)15O. Two open channels for the elastically scattered proton and the inelastically scattered neutron are explicitly included. The open channels are coupled by the optical isospin-dependent potential of Lane. The closed channel Hamiltonian is diagonalized in a restricted shell-model basis of one-particle-one-hole negative-parity states; the positions and widths of the resonances in 16O due to the closed channels are compared with experiment. The total neutron cross section and angular distributions are also compared with experiment. Some differential excitation functions are presented for the elastically scattered proton.
