Evidence for a two step mechanism in a pick up reaction on 12C

Abstract

A strong energy dependence is observed for excitation of 52 and 72 states in the 12C(d,3He)11B reaction between 28 and 50 MeV. A calculation of the two-step process via inelastic excitation of 12C explains the magnitude and energy variation of the cross sections.
