Abstract

The total neutron cross section for the reaction 12C(α, n)15O has been measured by an activation method from threshold at Eα = 11.345 MeV to 22.65 MeV. The differential cross sections at θlab=115.5°, 147.0°, 167.0° and 167.0° for 12C(α, p0)15N and Eα=13.05 to 23 MeV and for 12C(α, p1+2)15N from Eα = 19 to 23 MeV have also been measured. The correlations between the observed structure and that observed in other reactions proceeding through the giant dipole region of 16O are discussed. A fluctuation analysis is applied above Eα = 15 MeV and gives Λc.m. = 100 keV.
