Abstract

Electron radial functions for a uniformly charged nucleus are approximated to order (αZ)2 and compared with point-charge-nucleus functions and tabulated “exact” functions. The accuracy and utility of these approximations is demonstrated with an analysis of 12B and 12N beta-decay spectra. It is suggested that some published tables of position functions may be in error.
