Excited states of 81Br

Abstract

A total of 33 previously unreported states of ⁸¹Br in the region 1 < E_x < 6 MeV was observed in the reaction ⁸⁰Se(³He, d)⁸¹Br using a broad-range spectrograph and a 15 MeV ³He beam from the University of Pennsylvania tandem accelerator.

Nuclear structure data pertaining to all nuclei with mass number A = 81 (Zn, Ga, Ge, As, Se, Br, Kr, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb) have been compiled and evaluated and incorporated into the ENSDF data file. This publication for A = 81 supersedes the previous publication (Coral M. Baglin, Nuclear Data Sheets 79, 447 (1996), literature cutoff 1 November 1996) and the subsequent updates by C. Baglin for ⁸¹Y (literature cutoff 8 October 1998) and ⁸¹Zr (literature cutoff 24 March 2000). All literature available prior to 15 August 2008 has been considered. Subsequent to previous A = 81 evaluations, excited states have been reported for the first time in ⁸¹Ga, and knowledge of excited state properties for ⁸¹Y and ⁸¹Zr has been significantly expanded. However, the expected $ɛ + β^{+}$ decay of ⁸¹Zr has yet to be studied.

Throughout this evaluation, the adopted energy for a level seen only in reactions in which no γ rays were observed has been obtained from a weighted average of all data which can reasonably be associated with that level alone, unless noted otherwise. Uncertainties in absolute γ-ray intensities are calculated using the method of Browne (86Br21).

1993, Nuclear Data Sheets
Nuclear structure data pertaining to all nuclei with mass number A = 81 have been compiled and evaluated, and incorporated into the ENSDF data file. Only new or significantly revised data sets are published here, together with all adopted level and adopted γ-ray information for all A = 81 isobars. This publication for A = 81 may be used in conjunction with the previous (full) publication (J. Müller, Nuclear Data Sheets46, 487 (1985) (85Mu16), cutoff date July 1985); please note, however, that data sets which are not published here may, nevertheless, have been revised in the current ENSDF file. The ENSDF file also includes the data set for a post-deadline reference (S. Mitarai, et al., Kyushu University Tandem Accelerator Report, 1991-1992, p. 75) reporting ⁸¹Y collective level structure deduced from ⁵⁸Ni(²⁸Si,αpγ) and ⁵⁸Ni(³²S,2αpγ)) reactions.

Study of the levels of 77,79,81,83Br with the 76,78,80,82Se(3He, d) reaction

Differential cross-section data were obtained for an incident ³He energy of 24.0 MeV for the ^76,78,80,82Se(³He, d) ^77,79,81,83Br reactions. Excitation energies for 42 states in ⁷⁷Br, 45 states in ⁷⁹Br, 30 states in ⁸¹Br, and 36 states in ⁸³Br were measured with a magnetic spectrograph; the ⁸²Se(³He, d) ⁸³Br Q-value was also measured and found to be 3207.4 ± 5.6 keV. Angular distributions are compared with the predictions of the DWBA theory to determine l_p values, parities, and spectroscopic factors. Assignments of l_p have been made for 30 states in ⁷⁷Br, 26 states in ⁷⁹Br, 25 states in ⁸¹Br, and 21 states in ⁸³Br. Spin assignments for a total of 9 states that have l_p = 0 are made. Spectroscopic factors for low-lying states are compared to the predictions of intermediate-coupling model wave functions and the summed spectroscopic factors for the l_p = 1, 3, and 4 states are compared to the total limit for the $2 p_{32}, 1 f_{52}, 2 p_{12} and 1 g_{92}$ shell-model orbitals.
