Abstract

The cross sections for all reactions in oxygen and neon are measured for incident protons of 13.1 MeV energy by a triggered cloud chamber method. In oxygen the inelastic scattering (p,α) and (p,p'α) cross sections are found to be 216, 39 and 118 mb respectively, and in neon 315, 72 and 250 mb, respectively. The total reaction cross sections are 373 and 637 mb in the two cases. The oxygen results are compared with previous experiments and the total cross section is compared with optical-model predictions. There is no previous work in neon.
