Isobaric spin impurity of the lowest T = 2 state in 20Ne

Abstract

A narrow s-wave resonance in ¹⁹F(p,p)¹⁹F has been found at E_p = 4096 ± 3 keV which is attributed to the predominantly T = 2 states in ²⁰Ne expected at this bombarding energy. Least-squares analyses of the scattering data indicate that Λ is 2.1 ± 0.5 keV and Λ_p/gL is 0.062 ± 0.004.

Proton elastic scattering from fluorine, chlorine, zinc, selenium and bromine in the energy region from 2.5 to 4.8 MeV

The determination of the composition of thin films by proton backscattering analysis requires accurate cross section database. In the proton energy region of 2.5–4.8 MeV, deviations from pure Rutherford cross sections become significant for many elements. Results for proton elastic scattering on F, Cl, Zn, Se and Br in this energy region are presented and discussed from the analytical point of view.
Measurement of a highly retarded α-particle decay in 20Ne

The partial widths for α-particle and γ-ray decay of the second 2⁺ T = 1 level in ²⁰Ne at 12.22 MeV have been measured. The reaction ¹⁹F(³He, d)²⁰Ne was employed, with deuterons detected in singles and in coincidence with γ-rays from the decay of the 12.22 MeV level. The coincidence efficiency was determined using the 100% γ-decay of the 10.89 MeV 3⁺ T = 1 level. The ratio of the γ-decay width to the total width of the 12.22 MeV level was measured to be 0.88 ±0.05, which combined with a recent 16^O(α, γ)²⁰Ne measurement yields a very small α-particle width of 0.32±0.06 eV. This result is also of relevance to the radiative decay of the 18.43 MeV 2⁺ T = 2 level in ²⁰Ne, and confirms a large discrepancy between the measured γ-decay width of the 2⁺ T = 2 level and the predictions of the shell model.
The α-width of the lowest T = 2 state in 28Si

We have studied the E_x = 15.22 MeV, J^π = 0⁺ T = 2 level in ²⁸Si as an isospin forbidden resonance in ²⁴Mg(α, α₀)²⁴Mg and obtained Γ_{α, c.m.} = 222 ± 22 eV. This corresponds to a reduced width ≈ 1.4 × 10⁻⁴ times the Wigner limit, which is the largest known reduced α₀ width of a 0⁺ T = 2 state in the A = 4n T_z = 0 nuclei. We have also established the existence of a J^π = 0⁺ state at E_x = 15.12 MeV with Γ_c.m. = 11 ± 2 keV and Γ_x/Γ = 0.7 ± 0.1. Narrow resonances at E_x = 15.08, 15.29 and 15.31 MeV are also observed.

Upper limits for isospin-forbidden γ-decays of T = 2 states in 20Ne

The γ-decays of the two lowest T = 2 levels in ²⁰Ne have been studied by measuring resonant γ-ray yields with the ¹⁹F(p,γ)²⁰ Ne reaction. Upper limits of (5–10) × 10⁻⁵ W.u. have been obtained for four isospin-forbidden (ΔT = 2) E1 transitions from ²⁰Ne(2⁺, T = 2). Limits have also been obtained for M1 and E2 transitions from ²⁰Ne(2⁺, T = 2), and for E1 and E2 transitions from ²⁰Ne(0⁺, T = 2). No evidence is found for an isotensor transition amplitude.
