Abstract

It is shown that axially symmetric deformed intrinsic states exist for the nuclei 58Ni, 42Ca and 30Si, such that states with definite angular momenta generated from them (using Elliott's procedure) have excellent overlaps with the corresponding states obtained by shell-model calculations.

A method of determining the intrinsic state is suggested. It is shown that a determinantal state constructed from single-particle states analogous to the SU3 states in a Q02 quadrupole field in the absence of the spin-orbit interaction determines the configuration mixing in the intrinsic state with remarkable accuracy.
