Abstract

The Doppler-shift technique was used to measure the mean life τ - (8.3 ± 3) × 10−14s for the 2.31 MeV level in 14N and to establish limits of τ <∼ 2.5 × 10−14 and τ > 6 × 10−13s on the mean lives of the 3.95 and 5.10 MeV levels of 14N, respectively. These measurements are compared with predictions made on the basis of the shell model.
