Abstract

The lifetime of the first excited state in Ir189 was determined by the time-to-pulse-height conversion technique to be 12.5±1.0 ns. The B(M1) and B(E2) values were compared with those for similar transitions in other Ir and Au isotopes. The experimental data are consistent with the supposition that the main part of the wave function of the first excited state of these nuclei has a collective character.
