Abstract

Angular distributions of alpha-particles from the reaction C12(O16, α)Mg24 were measured for the ground state and first six excited states of Mg24 at O16 bombarding energies between 15.0 and 22.5 MeV in 250 keV steps. Considerable complicated structure was observed. Although the angular distributions appeared to change rapidly with energy, some gross features did persist over a range of 1 to 2 MeV. Especially prominent was the high degree of asymmetry about 90°. From the angular distributions integrated cross sections were extracted in the form of excitation functions. These exhibit peaks which occur in several of the groups simultaneously. The most prominent appear to be at 7.1, 7.7, 8.6, 8.8 and 9.3 MeV centre-of-mass energy.
