Abstract

We have measured the spectrum of the alpha particles coming from this reaction at several angles. The measurements were made with nuclear plates. The spectrum shows the same shape and has the same intensity in all directions. We have shown that, under very plausible assumptions, the first reaction is isotropic. We can explain quantitatively the shape of the experimental spectrum if we suppose that the second reaction is also isotropic and we find that the intermediate state is a level of Be8 at about 22 MeV having a width of about 0.4 MeV.
