Half-lives of first excited 2+ states (150 < A < 190)
Abstract
The half-lives of the first excited 2+ states of the following even nuclei in the region 150 < A < 190 have been measured with a fast time-to-height converter; Sm152, Gd154, Gd156, Dy160, Er164, Er166, Yb170, Hf176, Hf178, W182, Os186 and Os188. Experimental total internal-conversion coefficients for these transitions are calculated from the present lifetime measurements and published inelastic-scattering Coulomb-excitation B(E2) values. Comparisons are made with theoretical internal-conversion coefficients which imply αexp./αtheor. > 1 for these deformed nuclei by an average value of 12%.

Nuclear Data Sheets for A=186
2022, Nuclear Data SheetsEvaluated spectroscopic data and level schemes from radioactive decay and nuclear reaction studies are presented for 186Lu, 186Hf, 186Ta, 186W, 186Re, 186Os, 186Ir, 186Pt, 186Au, 186Hg, 186Tl, 186Pb, 186Bi, and 186Po. This evaluation for A=186 supersedes the earlier evaluation 2003Ba44 by C. M. Baglin. Highlights of this evaluation are the following: 186Re: Revised %ε and %β− branches. New values are almost same as of the earlier ones. Adopted improved level energy for the long-lived (8+) isomer at 148.2 keV 5 based on the study reported in 2015Ma60 (187Re(n, 2nγ)) compared to 149 keV 7 in previous evaluation (2003Ba44). 186Hg: Discrepancies in the level schemes between 1992Po01 and 1993Ma02 remain to resolve experimentally, arise primarily due to the assigned multipolarity of the ≈607 keV γ transition between the 1228 keV bandhead and the 2+ 621 keV level. See general comments in Adopted Levels, Gammas dataset. 186Tl: From α decay studies, 2020St11 propose spin-parity (2−) for the g.s. and (7+) for the excited level at 0.0+x of level energy of 77 keV 56. From mass measurements, 2014Bo26 propose the (7−) level energy of 20 keV 40 earlier.
A fast-timing array of 2” x 2” LaBr<inf>3</inf>:Ce detectors for lifetime measurements of excited nuclear states
2022, Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated EquipmentWith its unique combination of excellent timing properties and good energy resolution, LaBr:Ce detectors have proven to be effective tool in gamma spectroscopy and in particular fast-timing studies. Eight 2” x 2” LaBr:Ce detectors used in conjunction with the 16 channel all-digital waveform 500 MHz acquisition module, PIXIE-16 were commissioned at iThemba Laboratory for Accelerator Based Sciences, South Africa. The results presented here give insight of the performance of the 2” x 2” LaBr detectors when used in conjunction with a digital pulse processing (DPP) module and electronic read-out module. Initial commissioning experiments were done using radioactive sources, including 60Co, 152Eu and 67Ga. The detectors were then exposed to an in-beam environment using the AFRODITE array with targets 45Sc and 64Ni, with a proton beam energy of 27 MeV.
Nuclear Data Sheets for A=160
2021, Nuclear Data SheetsThe experimental results published before May 2021 from the various reaction and decay studies leading to nuclides of Z=59 to Z=75, 160Pr, 160Nd, 160Pm, 160Sm, 160Eu, 160Gd, 160Tb, 160Dy, 160Ho, 160Er, 160Tm, 160Yb, 160Lu, 160Hf, 160Ta, 160W, 160Re in the A=160 mass chain have been reviewed. These data are summarized and presented, together with adopted level schemes and properties. This work is intended to supersede the previous evaluation of the A=160 nuclides by C.W.Reich (2005Re18), which was published in Nuclear Data Sheets 105, 557 (2005).
Nuclear Data Sheets for A=170
2018, Nuclear Data SheetsNuclear structure data pertaining to all nuclei with mass number A=170 have been evaluated, and incorporated into the ENSDF data file. This evaluation supersedes the previous evaluation (Coral M. Baglin), Nuclear Data Sheets 96, 611 (2002), (cutoff date 15 August 2002) and subsequent updates of the ENSDF file for Yb to Dy (cutoff 15 April 2010), Lu (cutoff 8 October 1998), Pt (cutoff 17 February 1999) and Ta, Os (cutoff 7 April 1998). Since the previous evaluation, 170Gd has been observed and the ground state T1/2 measured. New excited states have also been observed in the neutron rich 170Dy. The ground state T1/2 of 170Tb has been determined, however, there are currently still no excited states observed in this nucleus. There remains some uncertainty in the ground state and longer-lived isomer in 170Ir which could warrent further experimental investigation.
Nuclear Data Sheets for A=164
2018, Nuclear Data SheetsExperimental nuclear structure data for the known A=164 isobaric nuclides (Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Hf, Ta, W, Re, Os, Ir) have been evaluated, and presented together with Adopted properties of level energies, and associated γ rays. The decay data for these nuclides have also been evaluated, providing Adopted values of γ and β radiations, and log ft values.
No excited states are known in 164Eu, 164Tb, and 164Ir. Information for 164Gd, 164Re and 164Os is limited due to insufficient experimental data. For radioactive nuclides, decay schemes of 164Sm, 164Gd and 164Re are not known, and those of 164W, 164Tb, 164Lu, 164Hf, 164Ta and 164W are incomplete. The decay schemes of 164Ho and the two activities of 164Tm seem fairly complete. The decay scheme of 164Yb presents a major problem that the Q(ε) value of 887 keV 29 recommended in 2017Wa10 is in disagreement with the population of levels at 928, 952 and 1060 keV in the daughter nucleus. This decay scheme, which so far has been mainly reported in a secondary reference (1982AdZZ) needs further investigation. Also the masses of 164Yb and 164Tm need either new measurements or a re-evaluation to resolve discrepancy of about 220 keV in the Q value of 164Yb decay to 164Tm.
The reactions and decays for which no new experimental information has become available since the 2001 update have undergone revisions to incorporate conversion coefficients from BrIcc code, and evaluated Q values from 2017Wa10, but the essential content of such datasets may have remained the same as in previous evaluations. In this respect the present work greatly benefited from all the previous NDS evaluations (2001Si27,1992Sh07, 1986Sh03,1974Bu30), but at the same time data presented herein supersede all the previous published evaluations.
Nuclear Data Sheets for A = 182
2015, Nuclear Data SheetsNuclear spectroscopic information for known nuclides of mass number 182 (Yb,Lu,Hf,Ta,W,Re,Os,Ir,Pt,Au, Hg,Tl,Pb) with Z=70 to 82 and N=112 to 100 have been evaluated and presented together with adopted energies and Jπ of levels in these nuclei. No excited state data are yet available for 182Y and 182Lu, while only limited structure information is available for 182Pb and 182Tl. Rotational band structures are known for 182Hg and 182Au but spin–parity assignments remain largely tentative. The decays of 182Lu, 182Hg, 182Au and 182Tl are not well established. The 182Hf isotope is of geophysical and astrophysical interest.
This evaluation supersedes previous full evaluations of A = 182 published by 2010Si13, 1988Fi05 and 1975Sc13, and a selected (mainly high–spin) update of A = 182 published by 1995Si04.
Only the Adopted properties of levels and gamma rays are presented in NDS, consult the ENSDF database at www.nndc.bnl.gov/ensdf/ for details of individual reaction and decay datasets.
