Abstract

Some energy levels of O16 and O20 have been determined from studies of the O16(t, p)O18, F19(t, α)O18 and O18(t, p)O20 reactions. In all cases tritons of about 6 MeV were used and the emitted protons or alpha-particles were analysed in a broad-range magnetic spectrograph. Twenty-six states were observed in O18 below an excitation energy of 8.64 MeV and eleven states in O20 below 5.83 MeV. The Q-value of the O18(t, p)O20 reaction was measured to be 3.076 ± 0.010 Mev and is consistent with O20 having a mass excess of 3.802 MeV (referred to C13 scale).
