Abstract

Absolute differential cross sections are presented for the reactions C12(Li6, p)O17 (ground state and first three excited states) and C12(Li6, d)O16 (ground state), for laboratory energies from 3.4 to 4.0 MeV. Total cross sections are about 1 mb at 4.0 MeV. Fluctuations in the angular distributions and total cross sections suggest that the reactions proceed via the compound nucleus F18 which is excited to the region of over-lapping levels. This is in contrast to the predominantly direct character of the previously studied reaction C12(Li6, α)N14.
