Abstract

The elastic scattering cross-sections for 150 MeV electrons on O16 and O18 have been compared for the scattering angles θ = 60°, 90°, 100° and 110°. The inelastic cross-section on O18, up to 6 MeV excitation energy, has been measured for the same angles. From these results one can deduce: 1) The difference between the length parameters of the harmonic well potential for O16 and O18. If we write a18=(1+ε)a16, this experiment gives ε = (2.5±0.6) 10−2. 2) The lifetime of the 1.98 MeV excited state of O18 is τ = (3.3±1.5) 10−12 s.
