Abstract

Bremsstrahlung x-rays have been used to excite the 15.1-Mev level in C12. The integral scattering cross section of 19.0±0.27 Mev mb has been determined by measuring the absolute number by 15.1-Mev x-rays scattered. The peak absorption cross section 22.2±2.2 barns has been obtained from a self-absorption experiment. These results combine to give 54.5±9.3 ev for the ground state radiation width and 79±16 ev for the total width of the level.
