Abstract
This paper describes a detailed study of the , , and processes for the region of proton energies spanning the resonances at 0.67 Mev and 1.4 Mev. The measurements include excitation functions and angular distributions, together with the angular correlation between and as inferred from the alpha-particle energy spectrum in fixed geometry. The results are analyzed theoretically and are discussed in relation to the findings of other investigators. It is concluded that the complete body of data can be accounted for if the 0.67-Mev resonance (16.57-Mev state of ) is (2-) and the 1.4-Mev resonance (17.22-Mev state of ) is (1-), both formed mainly by -wave protons; this would corroborate the preferred assignments previously suggested. The proton elastic scattering data imply that the ratio is 0.5 for the 0.67-Mev resonance and 0.05 for the 1.4-Mev resonance.
