Abstract

The reaction Li7(d, α) He5 ha sbeen studied a a deuteron energy of 900 keV by observing coincidences between alpha-particles concurrent with a measurement of their energies. The results are compared under certain assumptions and are consistent with the properties of He5 as given by the scattering of neutrons in He4. It is estimated that less than one tenth of the disintegrations observed are due to the alternative reactions Li7(d, n) Be8(α) He4 and Li7(d, nα)He4.
