Measurements of ordinary muon capture rates on 100Mo and natural Mo for astro-antineutrinos and double-β decays

NUCLEAR REACTIONS Mo, 100Mo(μ-, X), E at 45-55 MeV/c; measured Eγ, Iγ, muonic X-rays; deduced ordinary muon capture on natural Mo and 100Mo, muon absolute lifetimes. Comparison to previous experimental data and to the theoretical results obtained with Goulard-Primakoff empirical equations. Discussed relevance to astro-antineutrinos and double-β-decay studies. Negative muon beam generated in the MuSIC facility via proton-graphite interactions at Osaka University's Research Centre for Nuclear Physics (RCNP). Gamma-rays and muonic x-rays measured with 1 planar-type and two coaxial end-type HPGe detectors.

Comparison of measured σ(E) with theoretical calculations using direct radiative capture (DRC) process coupled to a single-level Breit-Wigner (SLBW) resonance model.

S-factor compared with other calculations.

Comparison with Hartree-Fock Bogoliubov plus quasiparticle random phase approximation (HFB+QRPA) with Gogny D1M interaction for both E1 and M1 components of the GDR. Discussed threshold behavior of photoneutron emission in terms of average neutron kinetic energy.
