High-resolution study of Gamow-Teller transitions in the 48Ti(3He, t)48V reaction

DWBA analysis. Comparisons with shell-model calculations using GXPF1J interaction, and with B(GT) results from 47Ti(3He, t)47V reaction. Predictions for β spectrum of mirror decay 48Fe to 48Mn.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 239Pu(n, F), E=0.5-50 MeV; measured average total kinetic energy (TKE) using the neutron time-of-flight technique, and the kinetic energy of fission fragments post-neutron emission in a double Frisch-gridded ionization chamber at Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE); deduced average total kinetic energy for fission products. Comparison with results from model calculations, and with ENDF/B-VII evaluated cross sections.

Comparison of B(GT) values with those for 44,48Sc, and from 42Ti β+ decay to 42Sc. Isospin assignments made in comparison with results from 42Ca(p, p') reaction. Comparison with shell-model calculations using GXPF1J interaction. 12N, 16F, 40,44Sc; observed peaks from contaminants in the target material, and appropriate corrections applied to triton spectra for 42Sc.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 45Sc(t, 3He), E=115 MeV/nucleon, [triton beam from 9Be(16O, X), E=150 MeV/nucleon reaction]; measured 3He spectra, double-differential σ(θ), Eγ, Iγ, (particle)γ-coin using S800 spectrometer, cathode-readout drift chambers (CRDCs) and Gretina array at NSCL-MSU Coupled-Cyclotron facility. 45Ca; deduced levels, J, π, B(GT) strength functions, electron capture rates on 45Ca as function of stellar temperatures T9=8.5-10.5, poor agreement with shell-model calculations in the pf space and using GXPF1A, KB3G, and FPD6 interactions. Comparison of B(GT) with that from 45Ca g.s. to 45Sc g.s. β transition.

Gamow-Teller transitions in the A=40 isoquintet of relevance for neutrino captures in 40Ar

Main focus on 1+ states at 2290 and 2730 keV. Other details to appear in a future publication. 40Ar(p, n)40K; 40Ti(β+), (EC); analyzed previous experimental results, and compared Gamow-Teller B(GT) strengths in all three studies. Comparison with shell-model calculations in the sd-pf shell with a new interaction (WBMB-C) to study differences between structure of transitions from 40Ar and 40Ti. Discussed ratio of the cross sections for low-lying 1+ states populated in 40Ar(p, n) and 40Ar(3He, t) reactions. Relevance of 40Ar in the use of liquid argon as a medium for neutrino detection.
