Gamow-Teller transitions in the A=40 isoquintet of relevance for neutrino captures in 40Ar

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 40Ar(3He, t), E=140 MeV/nucleon; measured triton spectra, σ using Grand-Raiden spectrometer at RCNP facility. 40K; deduced levels, J, π, B(GT) DWBA analysis. Main focus on 1+ states at 2290 and 2730 keV. Other details to appear in a future publication. 40Ar(p, n)40K; 40Ti(β+), (EC); analyzed previous experimental results, and compared Gamow-Teller B(GT) strengths in all three studies. Comparison with shell-model calculations in the sd-pf shell with a new interaction (WBMB-C) to study differences between structure of transitions from 40Ar and 40Ti. Discussed ratio of the cross sections for low-lying 1+ states populated in 40Ar(p, n) and 40Ar(3He, t) reactions. Relevance of 40Ar in the use of liquid argon as a medium for neutrino detection.

RADIOACTIVITY 44Cr(β+), (β+p); deduced half-life of 44Cr, and β+ spectrum based on B(GT) from 44Ca(3He, t) reaction; compared β+ spectrum with measured delayed-proton spectrum.
