First spectroscopic study of odd-odd 78Cu

RADIOACTIVITY 78Ni(β-)[from 9Be(238U, X), E=345 MeV/nucleon]; measured Eγ, Iγ, βγ-coin, γγ-coin; deduced β-feeding, γ-transition intensities. 78Cu; deduced levels J, π, T1/2 of isomer state. Comparison with Monte Carlo shell model (MCSM) calculations. Wide-range active silicon-strip stopper array for beta and ion detection (WAS3ABi) with EURICA HPGe cluster det ector array at RIBF (RIKEN).

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 78Cu; calculated levels, J, π, occupation numbers of proton and neutron orbitals, excitation energies of the negative-parity multiplets, configurations. Monte Carlo shell model calculations performed using A3DA-m interaction. Comparison with experimental data.

Comparison with shell-model calculations.

Comparison with theoretical results from three different quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA) models to investigate the ground-state shapes of the parent nuclei, and to test commonly used models that provide β-decay properties in r-process network calculations.

RADIOACTIVITY 75mCo(IT); 75Co(β-), (β-n)[from in-flight fission in 9Be(238U, F), E=345 MeV/nucleon, followed by separation of fragments of interest using BigRIPS separator and ZeroDegree spectrometer (ZDS) at RIBF-RIKEN facility]; measured Eγ, Iγ, βγ- and βγγ-coin, half-life of 75mCo decay by (ion)γ(t) using active beam stopper WAS3ABi with double-sided silicon strips detectors (DSSSDs) for fragment and β detection and EURICA array of 12 clusters HPGe detectors for γ rays. 74,75Ni; deduced levels, J, π, multipolarities of two transitions, configurations, β feedings, β-n feedings, logft values. 75Co; deduced lower limit of %β-n. 75mCo; deduced isomer, energy, J, π, transition multipolarity and half-life of the micro-sec isomer. Comparison with the large-scale shell-model calculations using PFSDG-U interaction in the pf-sdg space. Systematics of low-lying levels in 69,71,73,75Co.

RADIOACTIVITY 71,73Ni(β-)[from 9Be(86Kr, X), E=140 MeV/nucleon, followed by separation of fragments using A1900 fragment separator at NSCL-MSU facility]; measured implantation events and β particles using position-sensitive, double-sided, silicon-strip detector (DSSD), and two silicon PIN detectors for TOF and energy loss, Eγ, Iγ, half-lives of decays of 71,73Ni using a total absorption summing NaI(Tl) detector (SuN) surrounding the DSSD; deduced multiplicity spectra, Iβ(E) feedings, B(GT). GEANT4 and DICEBOX analysis of total absorption spectrum (TAS). Comparison with QRPA, and shell-model calculations, the latter using NuShellX@MSU code with JJ44B and JUN45 interaction Hamiltonians. Relevance to improvement in the nuclear input for r-process calculations.

RADIOACTIVITY 75Ni(β-), (β-n)[from 9Be(238U, F), E=345 MeV/nucleon, followed by mass separation and identification of fragments of interest using the BigRIPS separator and ZeroDegree spectrometer, and implanted in WAS3ABi stopper at RIBF-RIKEN facility]; measured Eβ, Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, (implants)β-correlations, (implants)βγ-coin using the EURICA array for γ detection, half-life and %β-n or Pn for the decay of 75Ni. 75Cu; deduced levels, J, π, Iβ, logft values. Comparison with Monte Carlo shell model (MCSM) calculations. 74Cu, 75,76,77,78Zn, 76,80,81Ga, 80,81Ge(β-); observed γ rays in spectral Fig. 1.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 75Cu; calculated levels, J, π. 75,77Cu; calculated occupation numbers of proton and neutron orbits, potential energy surfaces for different spin states. 69,71,73,75,77,79Cu; systematics of energies of the first 1/2- states and corresponding B(E2) values, energies and decay sequences of particle-core coupling states, intruder states. Comparison with theoretical predictions from the NON-SMOKER code, and with Hauser-Feshbach statistical calculations. Recommended (γ, p) and (γ, n) stellar photodissociation decay rates for 103Ag, 109In and 111In for T=1-10 GK. Relevance to γ process is an explosive astrophysical scenario.

Indirect determination of neutron-capture cross sections for Sm isotopes

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 146,148,150,152Sm(n, γ), E=0.01-10 MeV; calculated neutron-capture σ(E) and Maxwellian-averaged cross sections (MACS) using γ-ray strength and level density functions (γΣF and NLD) extracted from the Oslo-type experiments for 147,149,151,153Sm, with the uncertainties in σ(E) calculated using Monte Carlo method. Comparison with experimental data from EXFOR database, and with the evaluated data in ENDF, EAF and TENDL libraries. 146Sm(n, γ), E=0.01-10 MeV; first estimate of experimental neutron capture σ(E).
