Charge radii, moments, and masses of mercury isotopes across the N=126 shell closure

NUCLEAR MOMENTS 198,202,203,206,207,208Hg; measured hyperfine structure spectra using Versatile Arc Discharge and Laser Ion Source (VADLIS) in CERN-ISOLDE Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS) mode; deduced isotope shifts (δν) and charge radii (δ<r2) with respect to 198Hg, hyperfine factors a and b, static magnetic dipole (μ) and electric quadrupole (Q) moments for the ground states of 203Hg and 207Hg, Comparison of g factors with Schmidt values for 207Hg, 209Pb, 210Bi and 211Po, and charge radii, and odd-even staggering (OES) of the mean square charge radii with relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) calculations using DD-ME2, DD-MEδ, DD-PC1 and NL3* covariant energy-density functionals for 197,198,199,200,201,202,203,204,205,206,207,208,209,210,211,212,213,214Pb, 201,202,203,204,205,206,207,208,209,210Hg. Source of Hg isotopes were produced in Pb(p, X), E=1.4 GeV reaction, and using VADLIS+RILIS ion source, followed by separation of fragments using ISOLDE General Purpose Separator. 183,184,185,202,203,206,207,208Hg; measured ionization and release efficiency as a function of the half-life of mercury isotopes from a molten lead target, and compared with ABRABLA, FLUKA, and GEANT4 simulations.

ATOMIC MASSES 206,207,208Hg, 208Pb; measured time-of-flight ion-cyclotron resonances, with reference to 208Pb using the RILIS+VADIS ion source and ISOLTRAP MR-ToF mass spectrometer (MS) at CERN-ISOLDE; deduced mass excesses for 206,207,208Hg, and compared with AME2020 values.

RADIOACTIVITY 188,188m,190,190mBi(α), (β+F)[from U(p, X), E=1.4 GeV using RILIS and HRS separators at ISOLDE-CERN facility]; measured Eα, Iα, fission fragment energies, (fission fragment)(fission fragment)-coin; deduced partial T1/2 of β+-delayed fission (βDF) mode, βDF probabilities. 188Pb; deduced mean total kinetic energy and fission fragment mass distribution after 188Bi β-decay of high-spin isomer of 188Bi, limits of βDF partial half-lives of the two activities in 190Bi. Comparison of partial βDF partial half-lives with calculations based on HFB and QRPA, and those of fragment mass distribution with SPY and FRLDM-based calculations. Systematics of βDF partial T1/2 in neutron deficient nuclei in Tl, Bi, At, Fr, Np, Am, Bk, Es and Md isotopes. 182,184,186,188,190,192Pb; calculated theoretical pre-neutron-emission fission fragment mass distributions (FFMDs) with the SPY model using the D1M-Gogny interaction, and with the FRLDM model.

Hyperfine anomaly in gold and magnetic moments of Iπ = 11/2- gold isomers

NUCLEAR MOMENTS 177m,191m,193m,195mAu; measured hyperfine structure spectra (hfs), hyperfine splitting, differential hyperfine anomaly, magnetic dipole moments using in-source laser resonance-ionization spectroscopy (RILIS) at CERN-ISOLDE. Mass separated Au beams were produced in U(p, X), E=1.4 GeV reaction, and delivered to either the ISOLTRAP Multi-Reflection Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer (MR-ToF MS) or the Windmill (WM) decay station. Comparison to the previously measured magnetic moments. 185,186,187,189,189m,191,193,194Au; re-evaluated previously measured magnetic dipole moments by properly accounting for the hyperfine anomaly.

Discussed feeding of the 0+ states by the transfer of neutrons mainly filling the N=40 subshell closure for the ground state.

Alternative approach to populate and study the 229Th nuclear clock isomer

RADIOACTIVITY 229mTh(IT)[from β- decay of 229Ac produced in U(p, X), E=1.4 GeV reaction, via a laser ion source at ISOLDE-CERN]; proposed an alternative method to produce the low-energy isomer in 229Th at 7.6 eV after the implantation of 229Ac ions in a large-band gap CaF2 host. Discussed benefits of using 229Ac ion beam in contrast to common use of α decay of 233U for the study of half-life and excitation energy of the 229Th isomer. Preparatory experiments, testing key ingredients of this concept, were conducted at ISOLDE-CERN.

Structure of low-lying states in 140Sm studied by Coulomb excitation

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 94Mo(140Sm, 140Sm'), (140Sm, 94Mo'), E=2.85 MeV/nucleon, [secondary 140Sm beam from Ta(p, X), E=1.4 GeV reaction at ISOLDE-CERN using RILIS, REXTRAP and EBIS]; measured scattered 140Sm and 94Mo particles, Eγ, Iγ, (particle)γ-coin, γ-yields using MINIBALL array for γ rays and DSSSD detectors for particle detection, γ spectra with laser on and off, γ-ray angular distributions. 140Sm; deduced E2 matrix elements, B(E2), spectroscopic quadrupole moment for the first two 2+ and the first 4+ states using coupled channel code GOSIA and normalized to γ-ray yield for first 2+ state in 94Mo target, and to known half-life for the first 2+ in 140Sm. Comparison with theoretical calculations using beyond-mean-field model with Gogny D1S interaction, shell model, interacting boson approximation (IBA), and E(5) symmetry. Calculated potential energy surface in (β, γ) plane for 140Sm. 95Mo; measured Iγ yield for 3/2+ to 5/2+ ground-state transition.
