Low-spin particle-core and hole-core excitations in 41, 47, 49Ca isotopes studied by cold-neutron-capture reactions

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 40,46,48Ca(n, γ), E=cold neutrons from High Flux Reactor of ILL-Grenoble; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, γγ(θ) using EXILL array of eight clover detectors from the EXOGAM setup, six coaxial detectors from the GASP array, and two ILL clover detectors. 41,47,49Ca; deduced levels, J, π, γ branching ratios, multipolarities, mixing ratios, S(n), configurations. Comparison with self-consistent beyond-mean-field calculations using hybrid configuration mixing model, based on a Skyrme SkX Hamiltonian.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 41,47,49Ca; calculated levels, J, π, wave functions and corresponding squared amplitudes, B(E3), spectroscopic factors for 49Ca levels populated in (d, p) reaction using self-consistent beyond-mean-field calculations in a hybrid configuration mixing model, based on a Skyrme SkX Hamiltonian. Comparison with experimental data.

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 249Bk, 249Cf(50Ti, X)299119*/299120*, E(average)=281.5 MeV; measured evaporation residues (ERs), Eα, correlated ER-α and ER-α12-SF events using UNILAC accelerator, TASCA separator, and Focal plane detector system (FPDS) consisting of double-sided silicon strip (DSSD) detectors, and Si-strip detectors for position and time correlations of events. 295,296119, 295,296120; deduced no evidence for non-random correlated events related to 3n- or 4n-channel deexcitations of the compound nuclei 299119 and 299120, within a sensitivity limit of one event corresponding to σ=65 fb for 249Bk+50Ti reaction and σ=200 fb for 249Cf+50Ti; discussed nonobservation of Z=119 and 120 superheavy elements within the context of the fusion-evaporation reaction mechanism.

Comparison with results of previous measurements.

Superheavy Element Flerovium (Element 114) Is a Volatile Metal

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 244Pu(48Ca, Xn)288Fl/289Fl, E=259.4 MeV; measured reaction products, Eα, Iα; deduced two atoms of flerovium, the observed adsorption behavior of Fl points to a higher inertness compared to its nearest homologue in the group, Pb. However, the measured lower limit for the adsorption enthalpy of Fl on a Au surface points to the formation of a metal-metal bond of Fl with Au. Fl is the least reactive element in the group, but still a metal.
