Unexpected spin-parity assignments of the excited states in ⁹Be

RADIOACTIVITY ⁹Li(β^-), (β^-n)[30.5 keV ⁹Li beam polarized by collinear optical pumping technique]; measured Eβ, E(n) by TOF, I(n), nβ-coin, β-decay asymmetry spectrum as function of TOF at TRIUMF-ISAC facility. ⁹Be; deduced levels, J, π, β-delayed neutron transitions, asymmetry parameter for each β transition, Iβ, logft. Comparison with previous experimental data, and theoretical shell-model calculations. ⁵He, ⁸Be; deduced neutron branching ratios from states in ⁹Be through n+⁸Be and α+⁵He channels to 0+ and first 2+ states in ⁸Be and 3/2- state in ⁵He.
