Investigation of low-lying electric dipole strength in the semimagic nucleus ⁴⁴Ca

NUCLEAR REACTIONS ⁴⁴Ca(polarized γ, γ'), E = 6-10, 9.9 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γ(θ), integrated cross sections, and polarization asymmetry at DHIPS facility using S-DALINAC accelerator, and at HIγS facility. ⁴⁴Ca; deduced levels, J, π, photon branching ratios, widths, B(E1) and B(M1) transition strengths. Comparisons with dipole strengths in ^40,48Ca and with microscopic calculations within the extended theory of finite Fermi systems. Dependence of total E1 strength on neutron number.
