Shell and shape evolution at N = 28: The 40Mg ground state
NUCLEAR REACTIONS C(42Si, 40Mg), [42Si secondary beam from 9Be(48Ca, X), E=345 MeV/nucleon], E=238 MeV/nucleon; measured reaction products, inclusive σ for the production of 40Mg through two-proton knockout using BigRIPS and ZDS spectrometers at RIBF-RIKEN facility. 40Mg; deduced σ for ground state; calculated levels, J, π, σ, probabilities of the prolate contributions in 42Si and 40Mg ground-state wave functions using SDPF-MU and SDPFU-Si shell-models with eikonal reaction theory.
