Confirmation of the new isotope 178Pb

RADIOACTIVITY 178Pb(α)[from 104Pd(78Kr, 4n), E=358 MeV using K-130 cyclotron at Jyvaskyla]; measured Eα, αα-correlations in the α decay chain 178Pb -> 174Hg -> 170Pt -> 166Os -> 162W -> 158Hf, half-life of 178Pb decay; deduced Q(α), reduced width and hindrance factor. Comparison with theoretical calculations using the Coulomb and proximity potential model. Systematics of experimental and theoretical α-decay widths and spectroscopic factors for N=88-112, Z=78, 80, 82 nuclei. 175,176Hg, 177Tl, 179mTl, 179Pb(α); observed α peaks from contaminants.
