Evolution of deformation in neutron-rich Ba isotopes up to A=150

RADIOACTIVITY 148,150Cs(β-), (β-n)[from U(p, X), E=1.4 GeV using General Purpose Separator (GPS) at ISOLDE-CERN]; measured Eγ, Iγ, Eβ, γγ- and βγ-coin, half-lives of the decays of 148,150Cs, half-lives of first 2+ states in 148,150Ba by fast-timing technique using four HPGe detectors, three LaBr3(Ce) detectors for fast-timing and three plastic scintillators for β particle detection. 148,150Ba; deduced levels, J, π, B(E2), deformations, β feedings, logft. 148Cs; deduced %β-n for its decay. Comparison with previous experimental data, and with symmetry conserving configuration mixing (SCCM) calculations. Level systematics in neighboring nuclides.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 142,144,146,148,150Ba; calculated potential energy surfaces in (β2, β3) plane; deduced evolution of quadrupoledeformed shapes with a definite octupolar character. Symmetry conserving configuration mixing (SCCM) calculations. Comparison with experimental data.
