New excitations in 142Ba and 144Ce: Evolution of γ bands in the N=86 isotones

RADIOACTIVITY 252Cf(SF); 144La(β-)[from 252Cf SF]; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, γγ(θ) using Gammasphere array at Argonne National Laboratory. 142Ba, 144Ce; deduced high-spin levels, J, π, multipolarity, mixing ratios. 140Xe; deduced multipolarity and mixing ratios from γγ(θ) data. Comparison with large-scale shell-model calculations.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE 142Ba, 144Ce; calculated levels, J, π, quadrupole moments, B(E2), potential energy surfaces in (β, γ) plane using large-scale shell-model. Comparison with experimental data.
