Search for two-phonon octupole excitations in ¹⁴⁶Gd

NUCLEAR REACTIONS ¹⁴⁴Sm(α, 2n), E=26.1-26.8 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ(θ), γγ-coin. ¹⁴⁸Gd deduced γ-ray energy spectra gated by specified γ transitions, relative γ intensities in depopulating the 6⁺ (3484.5 keV) state, linear polarization, B(E3) for one-photon and two-photon excitations; calculated B(E3) using GCM with Gogny D1S force.
