Identification of a new side-band and proposed octupole correlations in very neutron-rich ¹⁵²Ce

RADIOACTIVITY ²⁵²Cf(SF); measured prompt γ spectrum, Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin using Gammasphere array at LBNL. ¹⁵²Ce; deduced high-spin levels, J, p, rotational bands, β₂ and β₃ deformations, B(E1)/B(E2) ratios, moments of inertia plots, octupole band with s=+1. Comparison with calculations in a reflection asymmetric relativistic mean-field (RAS-RMF) approach. Calculated β₂ versus β₃ contour plot.
