First g(2+) measurement on neutron-rich 72Zn, and the high-velocity transient field technique for radioactive heavy-ion beams

NUCLEAR REACTIONS 208Pb, Gd(76Ge, X), E=37.8 MeV/nucleon; Gd(72Zn, X), [secondary 72Zn beam from Al(76Ge, X), E=59 MeV/nucleon], E=36.5 MeV/nucleon; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin, angular correlations, precession angles. 72Zn, 76Ge; deduced levels, J, π, g factors. Systematics and large-scale shell-model calculations of level energies, B(E2), and g factors of first 2+ states in A=64-80 even-even Zn isotopes. Evidence for predicted transition in the structure of the Zn isotopes near N=40.
