2⁺ excitation of the ¹²C Hoyle state

NUCLEAR REACTIONS ¹²C(p, p'), E=66 MeV; ¹³C(p, p'), E=200 MeV; measured Ep and σ(θ). ¹²C; deduced levels, J, π, 2+ excitation of the Hoyle state in ¹²C. Coupled-channel (CCRC) analysis. Implications for the ⁸Be+⁴He reaction rate in stellar environments discussed.
