Strength of octupole correlations in the actinides: contrasting behavior in the isotones ²³⁷U and ²³⁹Pu

NUCLEAR REACTIONS ²³⁹Pu(²⁰⁷Pb, ²⁰⁷Pb'), E=1300 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin following Coulomb excitation. ²³⁸U(²⁰⁷Pb, ²⁰⁸Pb), E=1400 MeV; measured Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coin. ²³⁹Pu, ²³⁷U deduced high-spin levels, J, π, octupole correlation strength.
