NUCLEAR REACTIONS ¹²⁴Sn(⁴⁴Ca, 4n), E=189 MeV; measured Iγ, γγγ-coin spectra, Doppler broadened line-shape method. ¹⁶⁴Yb deduced high-spin states T_1/2, transition quadrupole moments.

NUCLEAR STRUCTURE ^{160,162,164,166,168}Yb; calculated potential energy surfaces; deduced deformation parameters β₂β₄, γ. Cranked-Strutinsky type calculations.
